Sunthay's Principals

Mr. Rao has more than 20 years of experience in financial services.

He began his career in finance in 2001 at Lehman Brothers, where he initially structured asset-backed and mortgage-backed transactions, with a particular focus on innovative short-term funding structures. In 2008, Mr. Rao moved to a structuring role in Lehman’s Prime Services division, comprised of the prime brokerage and fixed income finance (repo) business.

Mr. Rao joined Barclays when it acquired Lehman’s U.S. assets following the firm’s bankruptcy. At Barclays he continued to create innovative structures, including Agented Repo, a structure that allows banks to guarantee repo trades without acting as principals. Mr. Rao was most recently at Wells Fargo Securities.

Mr. Kelly has more than 30 years of experience in financial services in a variety of roles.

After serving as an associate at White & Case, Mr Kelly joined Merrill Lynch as a liquidity and repo attorney before ultimately rising over the years to be General Counsel of all global operating businesses of the firm- where he was responsible for the coverage of all Merrill products and entities.

Mr. Kelly was also a member of the firm’s Management Committee. He left Merrill after its acquisition by Bank of America, serving as General Counsel at Citadel Securities before retiring to pursue his long-standing interest in academia (teaching courses in Financial Institutions at Seton Hall University). Mr. Kelly is a 1982 graduate of Cornell Law School.

PETE KELLY

VICE CHAIRMAN

Mr. Cronin has extensive experience with building capital markets businesses.

After successfully running trading divisions at Merrill Lynch and Paine Webber, Mr Cronin co-developed the Bonds Direct electronic trading platform which became a key vertical at Jefferies after it was acquired in 2004.

Mr. Cronin was Head of Global Fixed Income, and subsequently moved to London to focus on building the firm’s UK and European Fixed Income Sales & Trading business, before taking on the role of President and CEO of Jefferies' overall Investment Banking & Trading franchise in the region.

TIMOTHY CRONIN
